Photo Gallery | Colorful Scenes Before Irene

With Hurricane Irene off the Coast of Florida Thursday Evening, The skies and the ocean were an amazing sight!

The weather conditions sparked the interests of many on lookers too. With the Beaches in St. John's County closed to traffic for Hurricane Irene, everyone was walking down to the surf to take a closer look for themselves at this huge storm brewing off shore.

All of these pictures were taken on August 25, 2011 between Hwy 17 in Putnam County and The Beach Ramp At Crescent in St. John's County.

The onlookers at the 206 beach ramp had a strange sense of calm, as if this was an everyday event.

It was quite the opposite as darkness fell over North Anastasia Beaches. The wind was rushing intensely from the West, blowing sand across A1A, and causing people to scramble to their vehicles, and for shelter from the blasting sand storm. Small bands of rain were briefly blowing ashore at this point soaking much of the First Coast Area.
