ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Pedro Mendendez High School students, teachers and staff helped celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Buddy Check 12 Friday.

A Pep rally, pink parade and pink costume contest was held. First Coast News anchor Jeannie Blaylock served as the judge.

Everyone knows if you detect breast cancer early, your odds of beating it are better than 90 percent so it makes sense to do self exams.

First Coast News' Jeannie Blaylock partnered with Baptist Health to create Buddy Check 12 -- designed to promote monthly breast self-examinations and to educate women on the importance of early detection. Watch Jeannie's Buddy Check 12 reports every 12th of the month on First Coast News and remind a buddy to self-check for breast cancer.

Saturday the Buddy Check Celebration continues from 1 p.m.-2 p.m., on the Northbank Riverwalk immediately following the Pink Ribbon Symposium. Come join everyone as they do the Ta Ta Cha Cha and take a memorial Buddy Check 20th photo.

And starting Monday, you'll be able to enter for a chance to win one of two Nexus 7 tablets being given away as part of the celebration. We'll have details Monday on First Coast News about how you'll be able to enter the contest.
