New: 2 Dead in St. Johns County Crash

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that killed 2 passengers.

Deputies said it happened Sunday at 8:20 p.m. at County Road 13 South near Cow Pen Branch Road.

The driver, Carlos Bueso, 27, was wearing a seatbelt when he ran off the road and struck a tree, deputies said.

Both passengers in the vehicle were not wearing a seatbelt. Deputies said Sharom Pallett, 40, and a male were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Bueso was taken to Flagler Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Officials are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the crash.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Community member Layne sent in photos and a news tip about an overturned truck on Interstate 95 Northbound near State Road 16.

Right now police and emergency crews have the right NB lane blocked as a result.

Drivers can use US-1 as an alternate route to avoid any delays.

Drainage Project to Ease St. Augustine Flooding

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A half million dollar road-drainage project on King Street is nearing completion.

The project is expected to be wrapped un in early May.
King Street near the St. Augustine Police Department is prone to flooding during heavy rains.

Traffic has been detoured around the construction site since January. Rain has delayed work on the project.

On Thursday the intersection in front of the police station is scheduled to open. The intersection at King Street and Sebastian Harbor Drive has been closed since mid-February.

For the next few weeks there will only be west bound traffic on Kings Street.

SR 206 / Crescent Beach Bridge Painting Project Complete

The SR 206/Crescent Beach Bridge painting project is complete. After a little more than one year of work and necessary bridge closures, the bridge painting project was finished on March 18.

During the year-long work effort, general contractor Coastal Marine Construction Inc. prepared the bridge and applied specially-formulated paint to help deter rust, sea spray and other harsh environmental conditions from damaging the 36-year old bridge.

FDOT King Street Westbound Traffic to Shift Thursday

King Street westbound traffic between Riberia Street and US 1 (Ponce de Leon Boulevard) will shift approximately 12 feet south Thursday to accommodate the drainage construction project underway.

At the same time, the intersection of King Street and Sebastian Harbor Drive will re-open. This intersection was closed February 23 to accommodate construction and all traffic headed to the St. Augustine Police Station and the San Sebastian Winery was rerouted.

Northeast Florida Regional Airport has announced that it will host “Destination...Bahamas” on June 4, 2011 from 10AM – 2PM. This is a regional event, free to the public, which will highlight ease of travel to and from the Islands of the Bahamas.

The event will attract not only the general aviation community but also many residents from the surrounding Northeast Florida area. General aviation pilots will have the opportunity to “Fly-in” and be hosted by Galaxy Aviation. Special fuel prices and hotel rates have been secured for this event.
