The 8th Annual Master Chief McFarland Memorial Inter-Service Field Meet

Saturday, October 25th was another busy day for the Nease High School NJROTC. The 8th Annual Master Chief McFarland Memorial Inter-Service Field Meet, honoring Master Chief Russell McFarland, former instructor for Nease’s NJROTC who died in 2003 after a battle with brain cancer went on without a hitch under sunny skies and mild temperatures.

Hosting an inter-service drill/field meet has become a routine thing for the instructors, cadets and parents. But routine does not mean it is a simple process. Planning for this years’ event began only days after the completion of the meet last year. As is typical of most large organizations, evaluation of everything from the scoring system, food menus and preparation, competition events, etc. began immediately. Because each military service branch has a different focus, the competition cards are not the same. All these differences must be programmed into a scoring system so that every team is evaluated equally.
