Alligator Farm Zoological Park Brings Alligator Mascot to R.B. Hunt Elementary School, Nov. 17th

On Wednesday, November 17, The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park will bring its alligator mascot to R.B. Hunt Elementary School to meet children and celebrate a new business partnership with the school. The alligator mascot is a six-foot character who will don an R.B. Hunt t-shirt for the event and will make the rounds of classrooms.

Wounded Warrior Project Announces Scholarship

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is proud to announce a $1,000 scholarship and essay contest for high school seniors. The scholarship is open to public, private, and home schooled students in the Clay, Duval, Nassau, and St. John’s Counties in Florida.

Students are being asked to submit a 500 word essay answering the question, “Why is it important to honor our Veterans?” Deadline for the essay is February 21, 2011.  A panel of judges will then honor the top essay from each county with a $1,000 scholarship award which winners can use at any college, technical school or university nationwide.

Holocaust Survivor to Speak at Flagler College, Nov. 18th

Holocaust survivor Bob Behr will speak to a class at Flagler College on Nov. 18 about his experiences of living in Germany during Nazi rule. Behr will speak in the Virginia Room of the Ringhver Student Center on Sevilla Street from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Members of the community are invited to attend.

Search for the Most Innovative "Green" Office Product

With a goal of searching worldwide for the next great idea for environmentally preferable office products, Staples is giving Jacksonville-area college students an opportunity to compete for a $25,000 grand prize if they submit a 1,000 word description of their idea by Dec. 23, 2010.

FPL to Unveil Solar Education Station at Pedro Menendez High School

Continuing its commitment to the future of renewable energy, FPL together with St. Johns County School District officials, will unveil a solar array and learning center at Pedro Menendez High School in St. Augustine, Fla, on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m.

Nov. 22nd is Day of Thanksgiving and Remembrance at Landrum Middle School

The Landrum Middle School's IMPACT Club will host their 3rd annual Day of Thanksgiving and Remembrance on Monday, November 22nd.

The community is invited to come to the back field of the school and walk a lap past names of family and friends who have battled cancer and also those who have served in the military.

The event runs from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The day was conceived by Dean Sherri Anthony. She lost her both of her parents to cancer in the mid '90's. Anthony's dad fought in WWII. 

Each year names are placed on stakes around the school's track. T-shirts are sold to the students  in different colors to represent different First Coast Charities.   

The money raised is donated to those charities which include The Donna Foundation and Wounded warriors.

SJMSAA Soccer Registration

The Saint Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) is now offering middle school soccer for both boys and girls. Try-outs for both teams will be held after school on November 15 and November 16. A regis-tration form must be filled out prior to November 15. You can register online at www.sjmsaa.com.
