PBMS Student Council Toy Drive a Huge Success!

The Pacetti Bay Student Council sponsored a Toy Drive for needy families in St. Johns County. All toys and monetary donations were donated to "Firefighters for Families". ?Firefighters for Families? organizes an an-nual holiday toy drive to support qualified families. 100% of the donations are returned directly to the com-munity. This was our first toy drive and it was a huge success thanks to the generosity of Pacetti Bay students and families. We were able to donate over 1500 toys and over $790.00 ! The top two school-wide homeroom winners that donated the most toys will receive a pizza party. Special thanks to Ms. Checchia's and Ms. Bai-ley's homeroom for donating the most toys.

Flagler SIFE Student 'Lends a Hand'

Flagler College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) student McKenzie Blaine was one of 10 college students chosen nationwide to participate in Liberty Mutual's "Liberty Lends a Hand – The Community Project." The project will run from Jan. 2 through Jan. 8, 2011.

Florida Youth Program to Graduate 158 Teens Saturday

Florida’s Youth ChalleNGe Academy is run by the Florida Department of Military Affairs and the Florida National Guard. Designed on a military model, 16- to 19-year-old high school dropouts encounter a rigorous five-and-a-half month residential phase.  These teens are given a second chance to earn a high school diploma, but this is the first class in which the Academy has partnered with St. Johns River Community College to offer college credits to the students.

Richard Willich Joins Tony Steward as VIP Honoree at U.S. Army All-American Tour Event

MDI founder and Chairman, Richard Willich, was invited to a ceremony and pep rally held in honor of star high school football player, Tony Steward’s selection as a U.S. Army All-American. Steward invited Willich to attend the selection celebration as his VIP guest, honoring Willich for his military service and support of youth and high school sports in the area.

Nease HI-Q Team Wins Districts

This past Thursday, the Nease Varsity HI-Q team won the District Tournament which was held at Creekside High School. HI-Q is an academic based team that competes regularly against other schools in the area. The questions asked during matches include a multitude of different topics ranging from literature to geography.

The Varsity team defeated St. Augustine and Bartram High before they advanced to the final round, where they beat Columbia High School decisively. Seniors Brad Roche, Brian Bell, David Bell, and Matt Krepp led the way to victory with exceptional performances throughout the day.

Nease will advance to the next level of competition in late January with hopes of bring home another trophy.

Dr. Dawn Emerick, Executive Director of the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, will facilitate a kick-off meeting for the Concussions Study Council which consists of over 20 medical professionals and sports personnel.
