Student of the Week Inspired by Friends, Faith

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Although she's quiet in class, Alyssa McRary is looking out for her classmates.

"I'm always there to lend a helping hand for them," McRary said.

The Pacetti Bay Middle School student was excited to be nominated as First Coast News' Student of the Week by her teacher Catie Grimes.

"Every single teacher here appreciates her," Grimes said, calling McRary a natural leader.

"It's so nice to have a child who is unafraid to say 'no this is who I am, and I love who I am,'" Grimes explained. "She's a great example for other children to follow."

Whether it's leading FCA or during soccer, McRary said her faith pushes her to be compassionate and to do her best.

"When it gets rough, you've got your text book and of course the Lord, but do the best you can," McRary said.
