The St. Johns County Education Foundation (SJCEF) is proud to announce the success of one of their Take Stock in Children (TSIC) scholarship recipients, Jesse Martin, for his role in Nease High School’s newscast, which was ranked as best in the nation at the Student Television Network annual convention in Orlando.

The convention gathered over 1,460 students from 120 high schools from all 50 states.  There, students were able to demonstrate their talents in the broadcasting field for a panel of judges from various media outlets.  Martin’s team competed in the Sports Highlights Division where he was in charge of the camera and editing during the school’s varsity football games.  His team earned 8th place nation-wide within the division.  Nease High School’s Wired News Show, where Martin is often featured, ranked as number one in the nation in the Daily Broadcast Division.

"Jesse has really excelled in his studies and in the Communications Academy at Nease.  He is using his experience to help him decide which degree in communications he wants to pursue in college,” said the St. Johns County Education Foundation’s Take Stock in Children Coordinator, Marci Poston.

Martin’s hard work and determination are attributed to his character and his TSIC mentor Stephen Melching’s guidance. The TSIC program could not be more excited for Martin and his accomplishments.

“We have no doubt that he will successfully complete the Take Stock in Children program (TSIC) and use his TSIC scholarship to achieve his goals.  His mentor, Stephen Melching, and the Program are extremely proud of his accomplishments.  He is truly a shining example of a Take Stock in Children Scholar," said Poston.

Take Stock in Children is an innovative state-wide organization with success in increasing high school graduation rates and expanding college enrollment opportunities for qualified students.
