SJCEF to host annual Tools 4 Schools Program at Pacetti Bay Middle School this August

The St. Johns County Education Foundation (SJCEF) has announced that it will host its annual Tools 4 Schools event at Pacetti Bay Middle School on August 31, 2011.   Tools 4 Schools is a county-wide school supply drive hosted by the SJCEF that directly benefits the educators in the St. Johns County School District.

Beginning in July, drop-off locations for school supply donations will be established in local business and organizations.  Employees and people of the community are encouraged to donate new supplies that educators can use in their classrooms.  On August 31, 2011, Pacetti Bay will open their multipurpose room and welcome all local teachers to collect what they need from the donations for the upcoming school year.

The SJCEF recognizes the need of supplies for teachers.  A survey was created and distributed by the SJCEF to determine what was in the greatest demand by teachers.  It was found that most teachers need colored markers and paper, file folders, three-ring binders, tissues, pencils and pens, tape, and blank copy paper.

“I didn't know what to expect but it exceeded my expectations and I was able to get for free items such as crayons, folders, and paper to give to my students that can't afford supplies. Thank you all again!” said one teacher in a survey regarding last year’s event.

Also, through open comments in the survey, it was noted that many teachers often use their own money to purchase supplies for their classroom.  It is the SJCEF’s goal to collect as much as possible to help benefit these teachers that contribute their own funds so kids do not go without.

“I spend my own money every year, especially for colored pencils, pocket folders and composition books for my kids who can't afford them” stated another anonymous educator through the survey.

Individuals, organizations and businesses within St. Johns County are encouraged to become a part of this event by becoming drop-off points, donating supplies and volunteering time to help prepare for this event. To become a drop-off point or find the nearest location of one, please contact Donna Lueders at (904) 547-7560 or email at luederd@stjohns.k12.fl.us
