CR 13S Crash Info

Traffic Homicide Investigators from St Johns County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to a single vehicle fatal crash in southern St Johns County January 1, 2011.  Deputies found a 2005 Isuzu cargo box truck in the woods on CR 13 S near Old Brick Rd.  The crash occurred sometime shortly after 6:00 PM.  A motorist found the truck in the woods and called 911 at 6:37 PM.  The driver, Howard Drawdy 38 of Hastings FL, was ejected from the truck after it hit a tree.  H. Drawdy was pronounced dead at the scene.  Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, but driver fatigue is suspected as being  a contributing cause.  This area of CR 13 South is bordered by hunting camps and is heavily wooded.  Due to the condition of the vehicle, it is unclear at this time if the driver was wearing his seatbelt or not.

King Street drainage project begins January 10

Roadway drainage improvements on King Street, between US 1 and Malaga Street, are scheduled to begin on Monday, January 10, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The $577,000 project will replace the old drainage system, between Malaga Street and the San Sebastian River Bridge on King Street, with a new system that includes replacing pipes beneath King Street and constructing a new backflow prevention structure at the San Sebastian River.

Traffic impacts will be necessary on King and Malaga streets and Sebastian Harbor Drive during construction and will begin within the first weeks of the project.  The project will take approximately three months to complete barring any unforeseen conditions such as rainy weather or findings of historical significance.
