Memorial Held for Cyclist Killed in Hit and Run

More than 100 fellow students and faculty members held a memorial service today for the physical therapy student killed while bicycling Wednesday.

Bryan B. Wrigley, 23, was killed by a hit and run driver as he rode his bicycle along County Road 214.

Local Band Penguin Teeth Kicks Off  Rhythm and Ribs Festival April 15

Local youth band Penguin Teeth will kick off this years Rhythm and Ribs festival to be held Friday, April 15, through Sunday, April 17, at the St. Francis Field in St. Augustine.  Penguin Teeth are scheduled to play from 5:00 to 6:30 pm on Friday evening and will perform their classic rock/blues style music of both electric and acoustic pieces.  The band is comprised of St. Augustine teens Bjorn-James Hanrahan, Christian Powers, both 15, and Evan Ellison, 14.   

Olympic Gold Medalist to Open Relay For Life of World Golf Village

Games, music, bounce houses for children and a celabration of local cancer survivors are all on tap when Relay For Life of World Golf Village kicks off at noon Saturday, April 9, at The Neighborhood Park on International Golf Parkway in St. Augustine.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay For Life of World Golf Village, teams of people will camp out at the Neighborhood Park at World Golf Village and take turns walking or running around a track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, this Relay is an overnight event that will last 18 hours until 6 a.m. Sunday, April 10.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Former Universiity of Florida and St. Augustine High School kick returner Brandon James signed with the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos on Thursday.

"In a highly competitive league like ours, special teams are
often the difference in winning closing games," Eskimos GM Eric
Tillman said. "With his speed and elusiveness, we believe Brandon has a chance to be an explosive talent. ... We're hoping Brandon will generate an abundance of excitement and big plays."

James helped Florida with the 2007 national title and was a
two-time All-SEC selection. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts
as an undrafted free agent last year and appeared in three
regular-season games.

Congresswoman Corrine Brown Sued for Unpaid Services

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Congresswoman Corrine Brown raised more than $1 million for her 2010 re-election campaign but one agency says she short-changed them.

"Corinne Brown and her campaign committees owe our clients, who raised over half a million dollars for her, approximately $44 thousand," said Martin Lobel, the attorney representing Berger Hirschberg Strategies, a major Democratic fundraising firm.

Both parties agree, the fundraising firm began working for Brown when she was thinking of running for Senate in 2009.

They entered into a contract in July 2009.

Corrine Brown, her Chief of Staff, and Friends of Corrine Brown are now being told to pay up for underpaid and unpaid fees to the tune of $44,495.

"Congresswoman Brown is not obligated to the defendants as they claim," said Brown's attorney, Frederick Cooke, Jr.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Last year, Tim McGraw performed in a special concert on Military Appreciation Day at THE PLAYERS.  This year, another country music superstar, Darius Rucker, will sing on the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse lawn on Wednesday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m.

As is the case for the entire tournament week, all active duty, Reserve and retired military personnel and their dependents are admitted free for Military Appreciation Day, as are children under the age of 18 with a ticketed adult.  For the general public, Wednesday Practice Round tickets are only $20 for the entire day.

Jennifer Hanley-Pinto from Jacksonville, Fla. won Disney’s Princess Half Marathon on Sunday.
