ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for a 16-year-old inmate who fled near the World Golf Village.
Syllas McMillan went missing on a field trip to a Haven Horse Ranch on County Road 208 on Friday afternoon.
Katie Bradford, who works at Buddy Boy's convenience store, claims she saw McMillan.
Bradford has worked the counter at the store for the past two years and knows everyone by name. Because in this part of St. Johns county, Buddy Boy's is more than a convenience store.
"When we see cop cars out here, it's something serious," she said. "We're not used to cops out here at all."
But this quiet part of the county is full of chatter after McMillan fled from authorities.
McMillan was on a field trip to Haven Horse Ranch with a group of Department of Juvenile Justice inmates when he kicked out a bathroom window and fled around 12:30 p.m. Friday.
"He was just kind of standing there, looking around sketched out so I just looked up and told my boss, 'I think that's that boy, I think that's that boy.'"
Katie said McMillan was standing near the front door by the boiled peanuts while he waited for a friend at the register.
He was wearing clothes that didn't look like his own and matched the juvenile's 6'2" 150-pound description deputies told her to keep an eye out for.
"I ain't never seen that boy in my life. It was freaky."
