PALATKA, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office was searching this morning for the remains of Rebecca Ware, who was last seen in 2010, but stopped searching just before noon after not finding anything.
Investigators were at the end of Beech Street in Palatka on Friday morning conducting the search after receiving a new tip. The SJSO tells First Coast News that has family has been updated with the latest information.
During Friday morning's search, a stolen ATV was found. Putnam County detectives are coming to retrieve it, but it is not believed to be connected to the Ware case.
Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide division of the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office made an arrest in the disappearance of Ware in August.
Timothy Johnson, 42, was charged with second degree murder and then indicted by a Grand Jury after earlier being named a person of interest in Ware's disappearance. But Ware's body was never located.
Ware was last seen October 29, 2010 in St. Johns County. Her car was found at a Publix parking lot in St. Augustine.
SJSO Public Information Officer Catherine Payne said information and evidence led police to believe Ware's death was foul play and that Johnson was responsible for her death.
