ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 67-year-old man on charges he sexually battered a child.

Joseph Larry Baggett was booked into the St. Johns County jail on a charge of capital sexual battery Wednesday evening, according to a news release from St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.

Kelshaw said last Saturday, Baggett was supervising a girl under the age of 10. When the girl's parents picked her up, she told them Baggett had touched her inappropriately.

The parents called the Sheriff's Office, Kelshaw said, which responded with detectives from the Special Victims Unit and the First Coast Child Protection Team.

Police questioned Baggett on Wednesday afternoon after locating him at his residence.

After questioning, he was arrested and booked into the St. Johns County Jail. At Baggett's first appearance hearing Thursday morning, a St. Johns County judge denied him bond.
