The newest distinction ranks schools against their peer group in their
geographic region. The four regions for the judging are North, South,
Midwest and West.

The rankings by U.S. News & World Report are computed using
measures of academic quality provided by the schools and assessments by
leaders at peer institutions. The data categories used include
student/faculty ratio, class size, graduation rate, percentage of
full-time faculty, student selectivity, average SAT/ACT scores,
percentage of highly ranked freshmen, alumni giving rate and others.
