ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A carjacking suspect the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office was searching for has been arrested.

Police were looking for the man after an alleged carjacking Tuesday morning.

Ryan McSwain, 22, was identified as a potential suspect, according to a news release from St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.

Kelshaw said when McSwain was brought in for questioning he was positively identified by the victim in a photo line-up.

McSwain has been booked into the St. Johns County Jail where he is being held on $25,000 bond.

Kelshaw said investigators with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office are crediting extensive media coverage of the surveillance photos of the suspect with identifying McSwain.

The alleged carjacking began around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Kangaroo gas station on State Road 16.

The 31-year-old victim told police as she made a purchase inside and as she returned to her car at the gas pumps, a man came up behind her and demanded her vehicle.

Kelshaw said the woman then went inside the store and asked the clerk to call the police.

The suspect, who was unable to start the car, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police were unable to locate him after a search of the area.

A woman who was being sought as a witness identified herself following the media coverage and then spoke with detectives, said Kelshaw.
