British pub in St. Augustine ready for Olympics | News

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- King's Head British Pub is getting ready to celebrate its 20-year anniversary and the celebration will happen while the Olympics are in full gear.

Ann Dyke moved to the United States 35 years ago and later opened the business six miles north of the nation's oldest city on US 1. Some said she wouldn't make it so far out of town, but the pub has flourished.

"We party here all the time. We hope the Brits come here and watch the Olympics with us. We are honored that London is hosting the Olympics and hope everything works out well. We are excited and will be rooting on the British," said Dyke.

Thirty-five percent of her patrons are British she said. She claims she serves the best fish and chips this side of the pond and says her place is the best kept secret in St. Augustine.

Her daughter Elaine Frew came over from England to help out , complete with her British shoes.

"I love them and they are comfortable and that is even better."

Gary Sass and his daughter were there for lunch.

"It is like going to London. We thought of this place to celebrate the opening of the Olympics.

Dyke has plenty of British brew. She said she had to give in after 20 years and add Budweiser to her menu.
