ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Emergency crews were called to the City Yacht Pier around 5 a.m. Wednesday after a boat began taking on water.

Two people were asleep while on board a 38 foot cabin cruiser Wednesday morning. One of the people aboard, a man, woke up to check his lines and realized the boat was taking on water.

He called the United States Coast Guard and St. Johns Fire Rescue.

Both people were able to make it off the boat safely, however, the boat eventually sank.

The Red Cross has offered to assist the two people who were on board the boat.
