ST. JOHNS, Fla. -- A jury in St. Johns County found a Putnam County man guilty on Friday on all charges he was facing in the April 2009 murder of his grandmother and crimes related to his jail escape.
According to a release from the office of State Attorney R.J. Larizza, Timothy Fletcher was found guilty of escape, a second-degree felony; grand theft motor vehicle, a third-degree felony; first degree murder, a capital felony; home invasion robbery, a first degree felony; and grand theft motor vehicle, a third degree felony.
Fletcher and Doni Ray Brown escaped from the Putnam County Jail went to Helen Key Googe's home to rob her, but she only had $37. Fletcher and Brown then beat and strangled her.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office found Googe face down in her home on April 15, 2009 and found that Fletcher and Brown had taken Googe's Lincoln Town Car.
The death penalty is being sought against Fletcher. The case against Brown is pending and a trial has not yet been scheduled.
