JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man decided to ask his girlfriend of two years to marry him this weekend, and he did it in true beach fashion.
"I'm a pretty creative guy," said 21-year-old Chris Williams while laughing.
"I wanted to do something that we could show our children and our loved ones one day."
So he recorded video of the whole thing.
First the 5:00 a.m., pre-dawn arrival at the beach.
Then the 90 minute endeavor of actually digging "will you marry me" in the sand.
"I was getting really tired," he said. "It was definitely a work out."
The message was so big he had to take his girlfriend, 19-year-old Tracy Smith, up in a helicopter to read it.
He captured that on camera too.
"I saw the writing in the sand and I thought it must be for a different tour," Tracy said. "But then he started fumbling around in his laptop bag."
That's when he pulled out the ring. She said yes.
"I was like, 'Really?' I'm was not expecting this," she said. "It was just a good time," Chris said. "It was all about enjoying the ride."
"I was just super happy," she said. "I haven't been this happy in forever."
