Promoter says St. Augustine may host more concerts | News
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Francis Field is still getting prepped for the concerts of the Gentlemen of the Road Tour this weekend.
Concert promoter Jeff Cuellar with AC Entertainment is one of the people who brought the concerts to St. Augustine.
"Everything thus far is going extremely well," Cuellar says Thursday. "For us we're already thinking ahead."
Cuellar said St. Augustine could possibly play host to other big name artists and bands. The company he works for 'AC Entertainment' has put on big concerts across the county.
Through this experience, Mumford and Sons, Cuellar said his team has fallen in love with St. Augustine. "It's everything. It's beautiful. The history, the people, the character. It's a place we want to do business. I'm not just saying that."
Before other concerts are booked, a lot of things have to go right this weekend with the concerts featuring Mumford and Sons.
If more concerts are booked in St. Augustine, Cuellar says the city government and the people of St. Augustine will have to want more concerts.
"There has to be a buy in from everybody," he said.
St. Augustine City Manager John Regan certainly supports events like the Gentlemen of the Road Tour. Thursday, he went door-to-door encouraging businesses to roll out the welcome mat for Gentlemen of the Road.
"Now is the time! Put a mustache in your window! Decorate. I'm the city manager... it's okay," Regan encouraged. "Do it!"
Instead of a welcome mat, Push Push Salon on San Marco Avenue painted its sidewalk to look like piano keys.
While concertgoers probably won't get their hair cut at his salon, owner William Coehane feels big events help everyone, pointing to Austin, Texas an example.
"So I think you can have great things come to small town and still keep the small feel, keep things good and have an economic boom," Coehane said.
Cuellar still has to see what happens with Mumford and Sons and this 2-day concert event in St. Augustine. However, more concerts could certainly be on the way.
He added, "We're we already looking to come back? Yeah. We are!"
