Winter Wonderland at St. Augustine Amphitheatre

The 5th Annual Winter Wonderland will be open to the public beginning Saturday, November 26th. Hosted by the Saint Augustine Amphitheatre and the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division, Winter Wonderland features North Florida’s first outdoor skating rink, along with various attractions including an Ice Slide, Reindeer Games, The Frost Kingdom Express Train, Blizzard Bounce House and Obstacle Course, Elf Village, Sleigh Rides, S’mores Pit and nightly snow fall.

Tobacco Free Jacksonville Coalition and Tobacco Free Florida

Today marks the 36th Great American Smokeout, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The Tobacco Free Jacksonville Coalition with the Duval County Health Department, the Florida Department of Health and Tobacco Free Florida are celebrating this event by encouraging Floridians to commit to being tobacco-free for 24 hours on Thursday.

An Exclusive Unveiling: Uncovering History with the Lighthouse

Rare, Inscribed Cannon to be Unveiled on November 18, 2011

First Light Maritime Society Archaeologists at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum will unveil the cannon, which were recovered earlier this summer from a shipwreck found two years ago, on November 18 in the Courtyard at an invitation-only event, giving the Lighthouse a chance to reveal the inscription discovered on one of the cannon.

The First Light Maritime Society, which operates the Lighthouse & Museum and the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program (LAMP), recently recovered the rare cannon covered in concretion from the shipwreck site that has already produced five cauldron, a gentleman’s pocket pistol and a ship’s bell. Archaeologists are working on removing the encrustation from the guns to reveal dates, nationality, or manufacturer’s information that might be cast or inscribed upon them.

2011 Hastings Christmas Parade Theme Announced

With a brand new group of community folks taking the reigns of the holiday parade this year, it is shaping up to be f ine one with the fun for all theme, "The 60's Give Peace  A Chance."

churches, civic organizations, school groups and bands are all encouraged to participate by building a float and parading down Main Street at 11 a.m. on Saturday December 10. Entry fee for each participant is one or more new toys, which will be given to area needy children. A special panel of surprise judges will award first second and third place prizes to the winners.

St. Gerard Campus Annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction

Tickets are on sale now for the St. Gerard Campus 29th Annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction to be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 12 noon to 3 pm at the Renaissance Hotel and Resort at World Golf Village in St. Augustine.  Men, women, teens and children will be modeling the latest fashions from Jones New York, Hartstrings, Men’s Wearhouse, Panama Hat Company, Saks 5th Avenue – Off 5th, and Rochelle’s.  There will be a fabulous silent auction featuring cruises, artwork and gift certificates in addition to a $5,000 raffle.  A gourmet lunch will be served.  Tickets are $35 each.  For further information and to purchase tickets, please call 904-829-5516.  Corporate sponsorship is welcome.
