3rd Annual Spring-4-A-Cure Relay slated for March 24

This year’s Spring 4-A-Cure 5K Walk/Run will be held on Saturday, March 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The race will begin and end at the St. Augustine Shores Riverview Club.

All proceeds from entry fees will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The race is being sponsored by the Mason Manatee Relay for Life team.

Awards will be given to the overall female and male winners. Recognition will also be given to the top three finishers in various age categories. Ample parking will be provided for all participants.

St. Augustine Lighthouse Black Tie Event

They may be going fast, but the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum still has tickets for its Legado gala event on March 23, and we’d love for you to come!

Not only will the Legado gala have a Spanish guitar, as well as a jazz Latino musical performance, it will also include a Malaga, Spain music exhibit. The exhibit will feature authentic Spanish music with a variety of genuine instruments, all of which can be played by guests of the gala. Adding to the festivities, the Lighthouse Archaeology Maritime Society will be performing various scenes from its successful Discover First America! presentation, The Madness of King George.

“Unbroken,” a Tale of Endurance and Survival is this year’s St. Johns Reads book!

 

The St. Johns County Public Library System is proud to announce that it has chosen Lauren Hillenbrand’s “Unbroken” for St. Johns Reads 2012.  “Unbroken” is the story of Louis Zamperini, whose story could have filled many books.  A boy on the verge of juvenile delinquency, Zamperini channeled his energy into running, which took him to the 1936 Berlin Olympics and within reach of the four-minute mile.

The 20th Annual St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum Festival is scheduled to be held on March 17, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Festival features local musicians and entertainers throughout the day, special maritime-inspired games, arts and crafts for children, food, refreshments, pony rides, terrestrial and maritime archaeology activities, contests, nature shows and presentations, and so much more. Also, the Junior Service League at St. Augustine will be hosting the Michelob Ultra 5K Run/Walk.

Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour Comes to the St. Aug Amphitheatre

The Beach Boys, one of the world’s most legendary and influential bands, have reunited for a global 50th Anniversary Tour.  Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks will tour together for the first time in more than two decades.  The 40+ city tour, which will begin in April, will feature a headlining date at New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 27th and a performance at The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival on June 10th.  A second show at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT has already been added for May 13 due to overwhelming demand. The previously announced May 12 performance at the Mohegan Sun Arena sold out in one day.

The SAM Club to hold First Annual "Paws in the Sand"

The St. Augustine Humane Society will benefit from The Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) dog walk-a-thon to be held on Sat., March 31. The event will be held at Butler Beach Park East on SR-A1A across from the fire station, with free parking at Butler Beach Park and the parking lot at the Mary Street ramp. The walk-a-thon begins with registration and entertainment at 9:00 am and the walk-a-thon runs from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. The fundraiser includes a one mile walk on the beach, dog training presentations, and demonstrations by St. Johns County K-9 officers. Music, food, and prizes will also be featured.
