Games, music, bounce houses for children and a celabration of local cancer survivors are all on tap when Relay For Life of World Golf Village kicks off at noon Saturday, April 9, at The Neighborhood Park on International Golf Parkway in St. Augustine.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay For Life of World Golf Village, teams of people will camp out at the Neighborhood Park at World Golf Village and take turns walking or running around a track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, this Relay is an overnight event that will last 18 hours until 6 a.m. Sunday, April 10.

On Saturday, two-time gold medal winner Shannon Miller will open the event at noon as the 2011 Honorary Event Chairwoman of Relay For Life of World Golf Village.

The community is invited and all proceeds will benefit The American Cancer Society. Festivities include a Survivor Ceremony and Luncheon at noon with Miller, a performance by six-year-old Elvis impersonator Gabrielle “The Storm” Jarrett, bounce houses, activities provided by First Tee and other Relay teams,  Zumba, bellydancing and karaoke.

At 9 p.m., Luminarias will light up the field in honor of local cancer survivors as well as those who are currently fighting and those who have lost their battle to the disease.
