St. Johns River Blue Crab Trap Closure Starts Jan. 16

 

Recreational and commercial blue crab harvesters in the St. Johns River system must remove their blue crab traps from the water before Jan. 16, the first day of a 10-day trap closure. This closure will give groups authorized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to gather traps the opportunity to identify and retrieve lost and abandoned blue crab traps from the water.

The St. Johns County Health Department has lifted a 60 day rabies alert that resulted from a report of aggressive behavior in a raccoon.

JEA Helps With Tips To Prepare For  Cooler Weather

It is that time of year again when the leaves start turning colors and falling to the ground. With cooler winter weather on the way JEA has released a list of preparations you can take to help prepare for the frosty days ahead.

Before you get hit with a hard freeze, or even near freezing weather, it is advisable to run your central heating and air conditioning unit to make sure that it is running efficiently. Here are some tips form JEA about how to test it and do a tune up to ensure it is running efficiently.

o   Check thermostat settings. Make sure that the reading is accurate to the temperature

o   Tighten all electrical connections.

o   Lubricate all moving parts.

o   Check and inspect the condensate drain in your heat pump.

FREE Energy Efficiency Workshops Every Week

 

St. Johns County continues its series of FREE Energy Efficiency workshops in November to teach design professionals, commercial contractors and homeowners how to build or retrofit to save money with energy efficiency techniques. All are welcome.

The workshops will be held every Thursday from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the wind mitigation building at the Agriculture Center, located at 3111 Agricultural Center Drive in St. Augustine.
