ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Lightning sparked a brush fire near U.S. 1 Sunday afternoon, according to witnesses and fire officials.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. on U.S. 1 near Ray Road and Nease High. The fire was near an abandoned commercial complex and also near some apartments, but no one was evacuated.

The flames shot up at least 20 feet before fire crews got them under control.

It happened about 30 feet from the northbound lanes of U.S. 1, and a single lane is still closed since fire trucks are in the area.
