Early Morning Attempted Home Invasion

At approximately 1:30 AM this morning, deputies responded to a report of a subject who had been shot. Deputies met with the 22 year-old male who had an apparent small caliber gunshot wound in the area of his right thigh.

809 Area Code Scam

A community member wrote us today about returning calls to the area code 809. The community member claims she actually received a call last week from the 809 area code. A woman called and said, “Hey, this is Karen. Sorry I missed you- get back to us quickly. I have something important to tell you.” Then she repeated a phone number beginning with 809.

Grand Jury Returns Murder Indictment against Joseph Roberts

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The man arrested in connection with the disappearance and death of a St. Johns County woman has been formally indicted for murder.

A grand jury in the case against Joseph Roberts, 26, returned two indictments against him today.

One is for first degree murder; the other is for grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Roberts, a transient, is accused of killing Brittany Tavar and dumping her body in the woods.

Tavar was reported missing in July, and detectives tracked her case all the way to Seattle, where Roberts was arrested on an unrelated charge in October.

Investigators from St. Johns County had been looking for Roberts, who was living with Tavar at the time of her disappearance, and he had traveled across the country in her vehicle.

While still in custody in Seattle, he gave investigators enough evidence to find her body in western St. Johns County, and he was extradited here to stand trial.

Pharmacy Armed Robbery Suspect Charged

A 52-year old St. Johns County man has been charged with two counts of armed robbery late yesterday afternoon in connection with two robberies of St. Johns County pharmacies earlier yesterday.  The suspect, identified as Kirk Lee Davenport, 52, 1210 Cherry Tree Rd., is presently in the St. Johns County Jail on bonds totaling $50,000. 

SJCSO Youth Services Unit conducted another "Alcohol Compliance Detail"

As a continuing effort to combat underage drinking in the county, members of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Unit with assistance from Special Investigations Unit Detectives conducted another “Alcohol Compliance Detail” yesterday, 25 October.  The operation covered numerous establishments throughout the county.  

For this operation three males, ages 16, 18, and 19 attempted to purchase alcohol at 52 St. Johns County establishments.  The Aides were allowed to purchase alcohol at 7 of these businesses.

Man Arrested in Connection with Armed Robbery of WGV Liquor Store

A 34-year old St. Johns County man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery of a liquor store (Publix Liquors, Tuscan Way) near Mill Creek late last week. The suspect, identified as Brandon Emery Treece, 34, no address, was located Saturday afternoon by St. Johns County Robbery/Homicide Detectives after he was identified by a tip following the release of a surveillance photo on Friday. The suspect was located staying at a residence in the 300 block of Bostwick Cr (Samara Lakes).  When the detective arrived, the suspect answered the door wearing a hat similar to the one that was worn by the suspect in the robbery. The victim of the robbery also positively identified the suspect’s burgundy Honda as the same vehicle that the suspect fled from the robbery in as well as identified the suspect from a photo lineup.

Suspect Sought in World Golf Village Liquor Store Armed Robbery

A male suspect is being sought in connection with an armed robbery of a liquor store (Publix Liquors, Tuscan Way) near Mill Creek late Thursday afternoon.  The female clerk stated that the male subject entered the store shortly after 5:00 p.m. and walked around the store.  The subject picked up a bottle of whiskey and approached the counter.  He then demanded money from the register from the victim.  At first the victim thought the subject was joking, however, he brandished a handgun and again demanded money.  An undisclosed amount of cash was turned over to the suspect who then fled with the cash and whiskey out the door.
