Five People Arrested, Drug House Shut Down for Second Time

Police have shutdown an alleged drug house in a residential area after serving a search warrant, for the second time.  Early this morning, March 18, 2011, The St Augustine Police department served a search warrant again to the residence at 105 Gerardo in reference to suspected drug dwelling.

Two Indicted for Defacing Castillo de San Marcos

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two people have been indicted for spray painting the Castillo de San Marcos in downtown St. Augustine.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced the indictments Thursday.

Scott Anthony Hill, 22, and Fang Chin Tsai, 20, are charged with malicious mischief and violation of the Archaeological Resources Protection Act. 

If convicted, both could face up to three years in prison.

Prosecutors said Hill and Tsai caused more than $500 worth of damage to the historic landmark after painting graffiti on it on Jan. 20.

This case was one of several incidents where graffiti was reported in historic St. Augustine.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Three men were questioned, and one arrested, following several reports of gunfire Tuesday night.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, around 11:30 p.m. off International Golf Parkway about a mile west of U.S. 1, deputies spotted three men walking from the woods, and ordered them to put their hands in the air and walk toward them.

Two complied, but the third did not.

The other two men told the deputies the third man, Daryl Wayne Stratton, was armed.

The deputies tried to secure Stratton, but said he resisted, and continued resisting after handcuffs were placed around one of his wrists.

After being Tased, Stratton was handcuffed and arrested.

The deputies found, in addition to the firearm in Stratton's waistband, a shotgun and an AR15 rifle in the woods.  Ammunition for the weapons was located in the car.

Two Georgia men were arrested in connection with passing counterfeit currency Monday afternoon. The two suspects, identified as Karl Bruce Hollingsworth, 28, Jonesboro, Georgia; and Dennis O’Keefe James, 30, Riverdale, Georgia, were booked into the County Jail where they remain in lieu of bonds totaling $10,000 each following a first appearance hearing this (Tuesday) morning.

Man Sentenced in Extortion Plot with St. Johns County

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A man who pleaded guilty in an extortion plot of a Ponte Vedra man will not serve any more time in jail.

Judge Wendy Berger sentenced Jasmin Osmanovic in St. Johns County this afternoon to six years probation, according to Chris Kelly, spokesman for the State Attorney's Office.

His record will not reflect a guilty verdict against him, per the terms of his sentence.

Osmanovic also must pay $43,000 to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office in restitution, in $500 increments monthly. He has to pay $2,500 for the cost of prosecution and $418 in court costs, Kelly said.

Osmanovic changed his plea from not guilty to guilty in January 2010 in the case involving Quinn Gray and her husband.

Registered Sex Offender Arrested on DNA Evidence

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- DNA helped lead investigators to a man suspected of climbing through the bedroom window of a teenage girl and threatened her.  He is a registered sex offender.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the victim reported the incident on September 6, saying the man had come in through her window between 5 and 6 a.m.

She said the man, who was wearing a mask, threatened her with a knife.

DNA evidence left at the scene led investigators to 35-year-old Freddie Owen Felder III, who was convicted in May 2000 of attempted sexual battery with a weapon.  He was sentenced to more than five years in prison and was released in June 2003, at which point he was registered as a sexual offender.

Deputies located Felder in the front yard of a home in Hastings Friday and arrested him without incident.

He is charged with lewd or lascivious battery on a victim between 12 and 15 and is being held on $1 million bond.
