Man accused of pulling knife, sexual assaulting woman

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A 52-year old St. Augustine man is behind bars, charged with a sexual battery.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's office says Randy Dewitt Gadson Sr. is charged with assaulting a woman in her home Tuesday morning.

Police say the victim told them she walked her children to the bus stop and returned to her apartment to find Gadson sitting on her sofa. Then, according to police, he followed the victim into her bedroom, allegedly pushed her onto the bed, punched her in the mouth and brandished a knife.

Gadson then allegedly threatened the victim before sexually assaulting her. A relative of the victim then arrived as the suspect fled out the door on foot.

The victim was taken to Flagler Hospital where she was treated and released.

St. Augustine police located the Gadson at his residence on Duero Street  late Tuesday afternoon.

 

Motel clerk jailed for allegedly tipping off fugitive

ST JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - A motel clerk is accused of tipping off a guest that U.S. Marshals were looking for her.

The motel clerk, Wayne Scott Mort, 53, allegedly tipped off Leanna Marie Obrien, 26 that she was being sought by U.S. Marshals, according to a release from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Obrien allegedly stole her grandmother's car, a 2012 Kia Sorento, out of Elkton Wednesday night, according to the SJCSO release. Obrien had been sought since Wednesday evening for the theft.

The 2012 Kia Sorento was recovered around 6 a.m. Thursday morning in the parking lot of the Quality Inn on S.R. 16 in St. Augustine, according to the release. Obrien was not with the vehicle when it was recovered.

Sheriff's search WGV for escaped teen inmate

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - Deputies are trying to track down a 16-year-old Department of Juvenile Justice inmate who fled on foot Friday afternoon.

Syllas McMillan, fled while on an authorized field trip to a horse farm on C.R. 208, near World Golf Village, according to a release from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

McMillan allegedly kicked out a bathroom window at the ranch located at the 7300 block of C.R. 208 around 12:30 p.m., the release detailed.

Deputies searched the World Golf Village area, down to I-95 and S.R. 16.

Deputies are continuing their search for McMillan from the ground and air, according to the SJCSO.

McMillan is described about 6-feet-2-inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a blue shirt and green pants.

McMillan was serving time for non-violent burglary and theft charges.

Man claims he has a bomb, robs St. Aug bank

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Police are trying to find a man they say robbed a Wells Fargo after he claimed he had a bomb.

The suspect allegedly told the teller at the 24 Cathedral Place location that he had the explosive and gave her a handwritten note demanding money, according to a release from the St. Augustine Police Department.

The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of money, officers wrote.

SAPD officers and K-9 teams from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office are searching the area for the suspect.

Burglary suspect caught on camera

CRESCENT BEACH, Fla. - Detectives with the St. Johns Sheriff's Office hope the public can help them identify a car burglary suspect.

The unidentified suspect allegedly entered an unlocked vehicle on the evening of October 15, according to a Facebook post by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. 

The burglary occurred in the 8000 block of State Road A1A in Crescent Beach.

St. Johns County stabbing suspect arrested

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - A woman accused in a recent stabbing is behind bars in St. Johns County.

Jennifer M. George, 44, allegedly stabbed the victim during a recent domestic-related incident, according to a release from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

George is accused of cutting and stabbing the victim during an argument, the release detailed.

George is charged with aggravated battery. The victim was airlifted to an area hospital and is listed in serious, but stable condition.

Man accused of stealing guns from cars in custody

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A St. Augustine man is in custody after being named the prime suspect in connection with two car burglaries.

The suspect, Richard William Palmer, 24, is accused of breaking into two cars on Elementary Way on January 28 and stealing two hand guns and other items, according to a release from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

One of the victim's security cameras captured images of the suspect and the vehicle used during the alleged burglaries, the release details.

Investigators arrested Palmer and recovered handguns and other property that was allegedly stolen from the victim's vehicles.

Palmer is facing charges of burglary, larceny and grand theft.
