ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A man who appeared to be checking car door handles was caught on camera at a residence in St. Johns County.
Several residents in the Wingfield Glen subdivision woke up over the weekend to find that their cars had been burglarized, and in one case stolen, according to several police reports from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
A 2004 Ford Focus was stolen from a driveway on Scrub Jay Drive and was allegedly used later to burglarize additional cars in the area. The Focus showed up on surveillance video soon after it was taken on Prince Phillip Drive. The Focus was later recovered with items inside taken from yet another vehicle that was parked on Knighthood Court.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is looking to the public to help identify the individual captured in the video. The suspect is described as a white male who appears to be in his late teens to early 20s and is approximately six-feet-tall and about 160 pounds, according to the SJSO. It was also noted in one report that the suspect “sagged his shorts and waddled as he walked.”
Anyone with any information about the identity or location of the suspect is asked to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at 904-824-8304. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
