ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man is in custody after allegedly being spotted behind the wheel of a stolen rental car.

A St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed a silver Nissan Armada weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed. However, once the driver allegedly spotted the deputy’s patrol car, his driving changed dramatically.

According to the police report, the driver of the Armanda allegedly slowed down to about 40 miles per hour, stopped partially in the right emergency lane and partially in traffic, so the driver and back seat passenger could switch places.

When deputies approached the vehicle, a 17-year-old female was allegedly in the driver’s seat and 22-year-old Carlton O’Ron Singletary was in the back seat of the vehicle.

Upon further investigation, the SJSO found the vehicle was stolen out of Jacksonville on April 17, 2012 from an Enterprise Rental Car location. After bringing a K-9 to the vehicle, trace amounts of marijuana were also found in the vehicle, according to the report.

Singletary is charged with vehicle theft and has a bond of $5,000.
