Crime

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- St. Johns County deputies are searching for Marcus Bryant in connection with the carjacking and kidnapping two people while fleeing from police.

According to Kevin Kelshaw, a spokesman with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Marcus Bryant is wanted on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

Police following up on tips, found Bryant around 3 p.m. today, but when he was spotted, Bryant jumped into a vehicle with two people inside and fled, said Kelshaw.

Deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but Kelshaw said the suspect ordered the driver at gunpoint keep driving. Whether there is a relationship between Bryant and the people in the car is unclear.

They drove into a wooded area at Whispering Pines apartments on State Road 207 near 312, said Kelshaw.

The suspect then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot into the
woods. Deputies continue to search the area on ground and by air.

Kelshaw called Bryant armed and dangerous. A Code Red was issued in the areas; automated calls to residents went out warning them to lock their doors.

Anyone with information on the case, should call the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office or call CrimeStoppers of N.E. Florida at 1-(888) 277-TIPS (8477).
