Two adults and one minor have been charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft after allegedly stealing a credit card and checkbook out of a car, police said.

According to a police report from the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office, a witness in the Samara Lakes neighborhood at World Golf Village notified the sheriff after he saw several suspects fleeing his neighbor’s house after attempting to break into the neighbors car.

Deputies responded and spotted a suspicious silver Toyota with a concealed license plate driving quickly through Samara Lakes and stopped the car. According to the report, “there was a lot of miscellaneous property in plain view inside the vehicle.”

The suspects were arrested and identified as 21-year old Mishellae Harris  of Jacksonville, 18-year Chris Turner of St. Augustine and a 15-year-old Jimmie Dee Wells III.

Turner initially claimed the three were visiting a friend in the area, but later confessed they had been car hopping and admitted to stealing a camera, said the report.

When Wells was questioned on how many cars they had allegedly burglarized, the juvenile stated that, “he couldn’t count that high,” the report said. It also stated that Harris claimed they were visiting a friend in the area named “Chico,” who gave them the stolen items.

All items were taken from unlocked vehicles. Deputies suggest locking car doors and hiding valuables from sight to avoid becoming a victim.
