Man Accused of Attempting to Rob Liquor Store

According to a press release from the St Johns County Sheriff's Office, a 21-year-old St Johns County man was arrested on a charge of attempted burglary early this morning.

Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at the Publix liquor store, 84 Tuscan Way, at 7:00 a.m. this morning.

A store manager saw the suspect, Christian Olivera, throw a large brick through the front glass window. Olivera allegedly fled on foot when the store manager confronted the suspect.

Another witness, an off-duty fireman, spotted Olivera run behind the store and into a nearby clearing. The off duty fireman chased Olivera, tackled him and held him there until deputies arrived.

Olivera, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, was transported to Flagler Hospital for medical clearance and was then booked into the County Jail.
