Retailers, Restaurants Offer Veterans Day Freebies

 

Vets on a tight budget can put away their wallets over the next few days.

Some of the nation's largest retailers are offering a satchel full of freebies to veterans and active military members in honor of Veterans Day. Most of the freebies require proof of military service. Many are restricted to specific hours on Friday, but some of the giveaways begin earlier and have fewer restrictions.

St. Gerard Campus Annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction

Tickets are on sale now for the St. Gerard Campus 29th Annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction to be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 12 noon to 3 pm at the Renaissance Hotel and Resort at World Golf Village in St. Augustine.  Men, women, teens and children will be modeling the latest fashions from Jones New York, Hartstrings, Men’s Wearhouse, Panama Hat Company, Saks 5th Avenue – Off 5th, and Rochelle’s.  There will be a fabulous silent auction featuring cruises, artwork and gift certificates in addition to a $5,000 raffle.  A gourmet lunch will be served.  Tickets are $35 each.  For further information and to purchase tickets, please call 904-829-5516.  Corporate sponsorship is welcome.

Ripley’s Attractions of St Augustine, Florida will be hosting Law Enforcement Appreciation Days from November 1 through November 23. 

All Law Enforcement personnel currently employed in the state of Florida are invited to attend the following attractions at no charge during those dates: Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Chipotle Mexican Grill  will raise up to $1 million to benefit family farmers through its annual “Boorito” Halloween fundraiser. Customers visiting any Chipotle restaurant in the US, Canada and the UK on Monday, October 31st from 6 p.m. to close dressed in a costume inspired by the family farm will be treated to a burrito, order of tacos, salad, or burrito bowl for only $2, and Chipotle will donate proceeds (up to $1 million) to Farm Aid and the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue Receives Donation for Water Rescue Equipment

St. Johns County has 42 miles of beaches, the Atlantic Intercoastal waterway, the St. Johns River, and numerous lakes, ponds and tributaries.  Over the past several years, St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SFCFR) has cross-trained firefighters to be able to respond to water rescues. During this process, many new and necessary pieces of equipment have been purchased to support the water rescue team.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Volunteers pitched in to a help a First Coast veteran get his new home ready.

Saturday they laid 38 pallets of sod, planted 27 trees and 450 plants for Tyler Southern.

Southern served in Afghanistan, where he became a triple amputee in an explosion.

The Home Depot donated supplies for the landscaping.
