Velo Fest Celebrates Life of Bryan Wrigley

Velo Fest: Movement of the People is the kick off the second year for Velo Fest Community Initiative.

The festival which is April 13 and 14, 2012 will showcase a community of bikes parade at 5:30pm starting at the parking garage, riding through the historic district in St Augustine FL, ending at Flagler College with a free educational event. Saturday morning at 7am spectators can watch professional cyclists race through the old streets in the Old City Criterium commentated by international triathlete  and resident, Dirk Bockel. Finally, Wrigley Ride, a memorial ride for Bryan Wrigley, will begin and end at the St Augustine Amphitheatre  at 2pm while taking riders past his memorial ghost bike. Bryan’s mother Mandy will be on the route to hand out flowers for riders to drop at the site of his death on CR- 214. Everyone is then invited to music, food and fun until 8pm at the St Augustine Amphitheatre. SweetWater Brewery is on tap with the sounds of The Red River Band, Son of a Bad Man, and Flagship Romance. 3rd Annual Spring-4-A-Cure Relay slated for March 24

This year’s Spring 4-A-Cure 5K Walk/Run will be held on Saturday, March 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The race will begin and end at the St. Augustine Shores Riverview Club.

All proceeds from entry fees will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The race is being sponsored by the Mason Manatee Relay for Life team.

Awards will be given to the overall female and male winners. Recognition will also be given to the top three finishers in various age categories. Ample parking will be provided for all participants.

St. Augustine Lighthouse Black Tie Event

They may be going fast, but the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum still has tickets for its Legado gala event on March 23, and we’d love for you to come!

Not only will the Legado gala have a Spanish guitar, as well as a jazz Latino musical performance, it will also include a Malaga, Spain music exhibit. The exhibit will feature authentic Spanish music with a variety of genuine instruments, all of which can be played by guests of the gala. Adding to the festivities, the Lighthouse Archaeology Maritime Society will be performing various scenes from its successful Discover First America! presentation, The Madness of King George.

The 20th Annual St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum Festival is scheduled to be held on March 17, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Festival features local musicians and entertainers throughout the day, special maritime-inspired games, arts and crafts for children, food, refreshments, pony rides, terrestrial and maritime archaeology activities, contests, nature shows and presentations, and so much more. Also, the Junior Service League at St. Augustine will be hosting the Michelob Ultra 5K Run/Walk.
