Free Pancakes at Participating Perkins Restaurants 3/21 to Benefit Give Kids The World

On Monday, March 21, more than 420 Perkins Restaurant & Bakery locations will join together for a system-wide fundraiser benefitting Give Kids The World, a nonprofit organization that provides week-long vacations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families at a fanciful, “storybook” retreat in Central Florida. Guests dining at participating restaurants on “Perkins Pancake Day” can enjoy a free shortstack of Perkins made-from-scratch buttermilk pancakes, expertly prepared using Perkins legendary recipe created and perfected more than 50 years ago. In return, guests can consider making a donation to Give Kids The World.

Local Bakery Featured on TLC’s Outrageous Kid Parties Show

The Cake Shop of San Jose will be featured on Episode 3: Anniston’s Rock Star Party, part of TLC’s new television series, Outrageous Kid Parties. The show introduces viewers to families who spend a small fortune to give their kids the celebration of a lifetime. Local party company, Rock Star Birthday Parties, who coordinated the party for a St. Augustine family, selected the Cake Shop’s over-the-top design that included an electric guitar, microphone and amplifier made of cake. The episode will air March 7 at 9:30 p.m. on TLC.

Flagler College will host Communication Week from March 7-10. This year's Communication Week will feature several returning speakers and alumni, while also hosting first-time speakers who will be talking to interested students about their careers in all areas of communication.

"Communication Week 2011 will bring together a diversified mix of public relations, journalism, broadcast, and cinema/media professionals from across the country," said Rosemary Tutt, APR, assistant professor of communication and faculty coordinator for Communication Week 2011.

St. Johns Beach Season Starts March 1, Early Birds Get Discount

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla - Starting March 1, driving on the beach will set you back some clams. Beach season officially starts next Tuesday, which means the county will be setting up toll booths and selling beach passes.

Up until March 1, pre-season passes are on sale at the St. Johns County Tax Collector's Office, the St. Augustine Beach Pier and the county's Recreation and Parks office.

An annual pass costs $30 for St. Johns County residents and $40 for non-residents. Those prices will go up to $40 for residents and $50 for visitors on March 2.

County officials also will be patrolling the beach to make sure people obey the rules.

"We want to make sure people maintain a safe speed, which is 10 mph and stay within the driving lane, which is marked by cones and remember that they're not alone out here," said Billy Zeits, St. Johns County beach manager.

Last Chance for Pre-Season Beach Driving Passes

Beach driving season begins on March 1st in St. Johns County, and now is the time to lock in discounts on pre-season prices. Through March 1st annual passes for residents are $30 and annual passes for non-residents are $40. Beginning March 2nd the price increases by $10. Pre-season passes are available at the St. Johns County Tax Collector’s offices, the St. Augustine Beach Pier and the Recreation and Parks Office on Mizell Road.

IHOP’S Free Pancake Giveaway Returns March 1, 2011

Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia families can be a part of pancake history as IHOP serves up FREE pancakes in celebration of National Pancake Day on March 1, 2011!  From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at IHOP restaurants across the country, families and friends can enjoy a free short stack of IHOP’s famous buttermilk pancakes, and in turn, make a donation to IHOP’s national charity partner, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.  All of the funds raised locally will benefit the pediatric programs at Shands Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital, both of which are Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
