Veterans-Only Job Fair Happening Today

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Veterans across the country will be able to log on and apply for post-service careers as part of a virtual job fair today.

Just one day before the celebration of Veteran's Day, more than 36,000 former servicemen and women have signed up to participate in the online job fair.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, recent war veterans had a slightly higher unemployment rate than the rest of the country in 2010.

"Gulf War-era II veterans," or members of the military who have served since 2001, had a jobless rate of 11.5 percent last year.  Non-veterans had a jobless rate of 9.4 percent.

In July 2010, a quarter of Gulf War-era II veterans reported some sort of disability from their time in the armed forces.

To help these men and women find new careers, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Milicruit.com are holding a virtual job fair from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today.
