Protection with One-Time Credit Card Number

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- There is a way to significantly reduce your risk of credit card fraud and it only takes a minute to setup.

Frankie Briggs, of St. Augustine, said she refuses to become a victim of credit card fraud.  According to the latest consumer report survey, 32 percent of Americans reported being a victim of credit card fraud in the past 5 years.

To protect herself, Briggs uses an option now available through many major banks and credit card companies.  Each company has a different name for it, but it is a one-time-use credit card number.

It took Briggs about a minute on her bank's website to get a one-time-use credit card number.

"Anytime that I can not physically swipe my credit card I use a virtual number," she said.

Some companies will let you select how long you want the number to be valid, but in all cases, immediately after the card is used, it no longer works.
