The Cake Shop of San Jose will be featured on Episode 3: Anniston’s Rock Star Party, part of TLC’s new television series, Outrageous Kid Parties. The show introduces viewers to families who spend a small fortune to give their kids the celebration of a lifetime. Local party company, Rock Star Birthday Parties, who coordinated the party for a St. Augustine family, selected the Cake Shop’s over-the-top design that included an electric guitar, microphone and amplifier made of cake. The episode will air March 7 at 9:30 p.m. on TLC.

“We’ve created original cakes for every occasion from romantic weddings to the Cirque du Soleil 25th Anniversary, so a spinning, sparkly rock star cake was just our thing.” exclaims Gail Wilson, pastry chef and co-owner of the Cake Shop. She continues, “We’re in the business of decadence, so it was great fun to be given a theme and allowed to run with it.”

The four-foot tall cake, designed for the seven-year old “rock star”, weighed over 150 pounds when completed. The Cake Shop engineered an insert with motorized turntable to allow the edible guitar and amplifier to rotate atop the sparkler-studded base cake. It took the team of four chefs over two days to complete the decorations and assemble the entire cake.
