Final Public Workshop - Windswept Motel Signage | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Characters)
The Scenic & Historic A1A Corridor Management Council and the St. Johns County Growth Management Department will hold a final public workshop on Monday, March 14th at 2 pm at the Southeast Branch Library located at 6670 US 1 South in St. Augustine. The workshop will discuss the design of the historic Windswept Motel sign and the location of three National Scenic Byway educational interpretative signs, all of which are being funded through a National Scenic Byway grant. This is the last of the two public meetings to discuss signs before they are constructed on site. The first meeting was held on February 23rd.
The historic 1950 Windswept Motel is located 7.5 miles north of the Flagler/St. Johns County line at Joel A. “Bubba” Williams Windswept Acres Park. The historic early 20th century motel is a reflection of what was an emerging post-World War II commercial traveling business in the United States. Additional grant monies are being sought to renovate the Windswept Motel into a future educational rest stop on the A1A Scenic Byway’s corridor.
