FPL to Unveil Solar Education Station at Pedro Menendez High School

Continuing its commitment to the future of renewable energy, FPL together with St. Johns County School District officials, will unveil a solar array and learning center at Pedro Menendez High School in St. Augustine, Fla, on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m.

The Pedro Menendez Next Generation Solar Education Station features solar panels similar to those operating at FPL’s DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Arcadia, Fla. and Space Coast Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Cape Canaveral. The school array will provide students a hands-on tool to learn about renewable energy and a foundation for future renewable energy development at the school in partnership with FPL, Suncoast and the St. Johns School District.

The school is one of eight in Florida where FPL is installing Next Generation Solar Education Stations. Last year, Pedro Menendez High School teachers joined colleagues from the other schools at an FPL solar training workshop to learn how to incorporate the stations and solar energy lessons into class curriculum.  FPL offers renewable energy curriculum sessions throughout the year for teachers statewide and, by the end of 2010, will have enabled 150 educators to bring the latest solar technology curriculum back to their classrooms.
